4A Br andon Valley Challeng er RECORDS Clarence Franka, 84 Memorial services for larence Virgil Franka, 8 4, of Garretson, were eld Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Mr. Franka died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at the Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson.

Clarence Virgil Franka was born on June 13, 1 930 at Meadow Lake, askatchewan, Canada, John and Bertha Bieck) Franka. Clarence went to school in Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School in 1950. In January 1951he enlisted in the National Guard and was sent to Camp Rucker, Ala. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to Garretson to marry his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Schurman. Shortly a fter their marriage hey moved to Garnett, where he started work for Great Lakes Pipeline Company, returning to the Garretson area in 1957.

He then worked the next 31 years at John Aft er retir- i ng, they oved to their lake home in Underwood, In 2009 they moved to Britton, S.D., where they lived or three years, returning once again to the Garretson area in 2012. Clarence was a longtime member of the Garretson American Legion and the 40 8. Survivors include his ife, Mary Ann, of Garr etson; sons, Greg Barb) Franka of Garrets on, Steve Franka of Garretson, and Alan (Gayle) Franka of Britton; grandchildren, Stacy (Lance) Bennett of Britton, Mike (Kirsten) Franka of El Paso, Texas, and Jeremy, Jared, and Shane Franka, all of Garretson; great-grand- hildren, Tynan and Kier a Bennett of Britton, ila Franka of El Paso, and Aryana and Jaxton Franka of Garretson; brother, Melvin (Pat) Franka of Sioux Falls; and sister, Alice Leslie of Norman, Okla. was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Lawrence and Leo. Clarence ranka Delilah K. Lien, 95 Funeral services for Delilah K. Lien, 95, form erly of Irene, were held onday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Trondhjem Lutheran Church, Volin, S.D. Interment was the Trondh- em Lutheran Cemetery, a lso in Volin.

rs. Lien died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in iborg, S.D. elilah Kathleen Nels on was born Dec. 15, 1919 in Viborg to Silas and Hilda (Skov) Nelson.

She married Clifford Lien on Feb. 21, 1947 and moved to California for a short ime. They returned to farm in the Volin a rea until hey ret ired to Irene. She was active in rondh- jem Lutheran Church, A merican Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Vall ey Dolls of Irene. Delilah is survived by her children, Robert (Diane) Lien of Brandon, and Patricia (Jeff) Franc is of Rapid City; granddaughters, Chloe and Hannah of Rapid City; brother, Eudell Nelson of I rene, sisters-in-law, eraldine (Jeri) Jurisson Sun City, Gladys Lien of Volin and Dorothy VanBeck of Alexandria, and many ieces, nephews and friends.

She grew up in the Sioux enter area where she at- ended school until the ighth grade, when she left school to help on the family farm. Elsie married Joe Baker on Feb. 9, 1939 in Sioux Center and they began farming together, first in Beaver Creek, and then near Valley Springs.

he enjoyed spending time with others and went to ork at the alley prings Nursing home as head cook. he also enjoyed pending time outside with her flowers and espe- ially her time with her grandchildren. After a fall i July of 2000, she moved to Good Samaritan and lived there until her death. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Dennis) Miersma of Valley prings; grandchildren, Shana (Patrick) Showers of Harrisburg, Shawn (Leah) Miersma, of Haw aii, and Shane Miersma Megan) of Sioux Falls; a nd great grandchildren, Milania and Blaise Showers of Harrisburg. She was preceded in eath by her husband, Joe; her parents; four brothers a nd one sister.

Jurrens died unday, Dec. 28, 2014, at he Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Jane Dorothy DeBoer was born Dec. 30, 1933 to William and Alice (Van Dyk) Jansma in North Long Beach, Calif. She grew up in the Ireton, Iowa, and Ash Creek, areas.

She attended Sioux County Country School in the Ireton and Rock County School in the Ash Creek. On Aug. 14, 1953, Jane was united in marriage to Peter J. DeBoer in Ellsworth, Minn. They lived near Ellsworth from 1953 to 1970, by ock Rapids from 1970 to 2001and in the city of Steen from 2001to 2014.

Jane worked as a dietary aide at Merrill Pioneer Hospital (now Sanford Hosp ital of ock Rapi ds). She was a member of the Steen Reformed Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking cookies, scrapbooking, embroidery and quilting. ane is survived by her husband of 61years, Peter J. DeBoer of teen; two daughters, Jolene (Richard) Van- DenBrink and Patricia (Todd) Loger, all of Rock Rapids, IA; daughter-in- law, Diane DeBoer of Rock Rapids; six grandchildren, Joel (Melanie) VanDenBrink and Joni Randy) Ymker, all of Rock Valley, Benjamin DeBoer (and special friend Kristi Oeding) of St.

Marion Jungk was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 28, 1920, to Heinrich George Martin and ertrude May (Brown) ungk (aka Young). She eceived her early edu- ation in Iowa, and later graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1938.

Then, ith her family, hey moved to Milwaukee, here she a ttended he University of Wisconsin, pledging to the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Aft er her, she worked at the Milwaukee Public Library. In 1943, she returned Sioux Falls with her family and was employed as a librarian at the Carnegie Public Lib rary. It was during this time she met her hus- and, Leland W. Johnson.

They were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1946, at First Lutheran hurch, Sioux Falls. passions in ife included genealogy, where her four decades of research provided significant contributions to a multitude of xtended family members and other genealogists. An avid reader, she enjoyed mostly non- iction works.
