RECORDS 4A Wednesday, October 24, 2012 Brandon Valley Challenger A Rebecca Assid, 54 Memorial services for Rebecca Assid, 54, of Valley Springs, were held Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. Ms. Assid died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at her home.

Rebecca R. Assid was born June 4, 1958, in Huron, the youngest of three children to Lyle and Mildred Nelson. Becky graduated Willmar (Minn.) High School and graduated with a bachelor's degree in animal science from South Dakota State University in Brookings. Becky grew up owning and showing horses and had an extensive love for animals. She had a special love for the Arabian horse breed that started with her grandparent's farm.

Becky's career began for the City of Sioux Falls working as a scientist for the water purification division. After Becky gave birth to two beautiful daughters, she found that she wanted to spend her time being an active role in their lives at home. Once here daughters started school, Becky worked part time for Valley Friday, Oct. 12 Neighbor dispute in 1300 block of East Sylvan Circle, all parties advised. Theft reported in 300 block of South Splitrock Boulevard, under investigation.

Narcotics violation reported in 700 block of McHardy Road, under investigation. Suspicious subjects at McHardy Park, all advised, sent on their way. Two juveniles arrested for possession of marijuana, paraphernalia and curfew violation in 200 block of South Main Ave. Saturday, Oct. 13 Suspicious vehicle in 1600 block of East Redwood Boulevard, left prior to officer's arrival.

Alarm in 900 block of North Splitrock Springs Elementary as a teacher's aide. She also spent the last few years as a volunteer for the Butterfly House in Sioux Falls. She is survived by her daughters, Alexie (Mike) Gregory of Valley Springs and Lisa (Brandon) Ha-nisch of Valley Springs; their father, Joel Assid of Garretson; three grandchildren, Liam, Lily and Bailey; a brother, Stephen (Candy) Nelson of Lake Elmo, sister, Beverly (Jack De-tore) Nelson of Valley Springs; special companion, Al Opheim of Hills, and many dear relatives, friends and pets. Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Mildred Nelson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Humane J.

Quinten Miller Funderal services for James Quinten Miller, 90, of Beresford, were held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Mr. Miller died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at his home surrounded by family.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; children, Jim (Sharon), Mandan, N.D., Dennis (Sue) Bloomington, 111., Don (Michelle), Owatonna, Julie (Wayne) Gottsleben, Brandon, and Lisa (Shelby) Dock-en, Beresford; 14 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
